PURCHASE THE PATTERN ON RAVELRY
THE BRAIDED PONCHO
Chic, fast and hella cute to boot. I am so excited to drop the #BraidedPoncho pattern today.
I always giggle that because of my Canadian heritage, people expect me to love the cold. Frosty window panes, fluttering snow… below freezing temps. Nope. No thank you. To be honest, I hate it with a passion! I’m the one you’ll find reaching for the fleece lines tights in the end of August when its 16 degrees out (60 Fahrenheit for my US folks), and I wear slippers around my house constantly. Heat? Give it to me baby.
So if you’re like me where that hatred for cold transfers to the office as well, I’ve just designed the perfect solution; the Braided Poncho. Cute, cozy, stylish, and WARM. Plus with a quick little chicken dance flap, you can air out your pits when you get a bit too toasty or hit a hotflash. *wink*.
THE INSPO
Outside of having my balls frozen off in the office, I wanted to create something that would be really great for walking my dogs, and would be cute to wear with tights and fall boots. The kind of “outside layer” that you could quickly throw over a light long sleeve shirt, add minimal jewellery and knee high boots and wear to meet the girls for a cup of coffee at a cute cafe or brunch spot. For some reason this poncho screams “kick some dead leaves in a crazy laughing manor with girlfriends” to me.
The second bit of inspo actually came from a caplet that I used to wear as a kid when I went carolling around the holidays. It was red and kind of flared out, making me feel like a bell.
DETAILS
This poncho is knit top down in a raglan style and is made with size 6 super bulky yarn and 12 + 10 mm needles. Making it a VERY speedy knit. It is written for three hybrid sizes; S/M (L/XL, 2XL/3XL). Knit in the round, it uses the double brim technique for the cozy collar (on US 17 needles) and an applied border for the braid at the bottom. The applied border sounds scary - but it’s a super useful skill learn if you’re a shawl lover and up for a fun + slight challenge.
DIFFICULTY
Advanced beginner - You will need to know how to cast on, knit stitch, purl stitch, work in the round, increase, cable, knit flat, bind off
